Have you recently noticed a shade of Magenta in almost every fashion and design store? Right from clothing to accessories, make-up to footwear, décor to furniture, mobiles to home products…. it’s everywhere! Even most of the top paint brands match their shades to Pantone Colours.
So, what are Pantone Colours?
Pan – all colours. Pantone is the global standard for colours used by designers, artists & manufacturers. It started in 1950 as a commercial printing company and since then has been widely recognised for developing the standardized numbering Pantone Matching System (PMS). It gives artists and designers a way to reproduce colours that are consistent across design projects and locations. Pantone is used universally and recognized as the world’s authority on colour.
Each year Pantone chooses a colour of the year (since the year 2000), based on market research, current consumer trends and cultural influences globally. The main objective is to help the fashion or interior designers plan for future products and incorporate the colour into their products and spaces. In December 2022, Pantone declared Viva Magenta 18- 1750, as the Colour of the year 2023. This vibrant shade of pinkish – purple is often associated with energy, creativity, and boldness. It is also the shade of cheerfulness, balance, and harmony.
This shade is already trending across the design industry such as consumer fashion brands and design spaces. If you visit a fashion store today, you are sure to not miss the eye-catching outfits designed in this beautiful shade on display. This shade is already out around the world across industries and now you can also see an experiential art exhibit celebrating this evocative hue in New York – Magentaverse. This is a multi-sensory, immersive experience which draws inspiration from nature and technology and celebrates the striking and expressive nature of Viva Magenta.
Pantone’s collaborations with various partners only shows how colour is a powerful communication tool in our lives and can be used to influence emotions, mood, or our reactions. So, get out there and find your shade of Magenta. This aesthetically pleasing colour can be used in any part of your home to elevate the room’s energy level…either as a lampshade, a painting, a pillow or any décor piece.
