Valentine’s Day is around the corner! A lot of you must be planning something special for your loved ones. February 14th is especially dedicated to celebrating love, romance and is a day to express your love and affection to people you love and who are very close to you. You can make this day extra special by gifting them something handmade and personal. A handmade gift is definitely valued more and it’s the thought and emotions attached to it that matter and these memories are cherished forever.
I’ve come up with some really easy and quick DIY gifts that you can make this Valentine’s Day. It need not be just for your lover, but you can also gift it to you Mom, Dad, friend or anyone who is special and close to you.
Shot Glass Candles- These candles are easy to make and look super cute. What you need: Shot glasses, Tea light candles, Red & White acrylic paints, Brush, or sponge. Shot glasses are available easily at any local crockery store. Leave approx. 1 cm from the top and apply the red paint using brush or sponge (dab). You will have to apply 2-3 coats and allow it to dry completely. Once dried, take a brush and using white paints, make small hearts on the glass as shown (apply 2 coats for the hearts). Once it has dried, add the tea light candles and you’re done.
Mason Jar with lights- I love these jars and they look really beautiful after adding lights. What you need: Mason jar (or any glass jar), Blue & Pink acrylic paints, Sponge, Jute twine, Fairy lights, Paint brush. You can get the mason jar from a cake shop or a home store. Apply some blue paint on the sponge and dab the colour on the bottom part of the jar. Now take the pink paint and do the same for the top part. Apply at least 2 coats and let the paint dry. Now taking the backside of the brush, make a heart shape on the centre of the jar and scrape the paint off in between. The paint comes off easily. Put the jute twine around it and add fairy lights inside the jar. You can also add a tea light candle if you don’t find the fairy lights.
DIY Frame- This is a quick and easy frame to make. What you need: White Frame (from IKEA), Acrylic or Water colour thick paper, Scrabble tiles, red paint, sketch pens. On the Acrylic paper, draw the centre line including the birds & heart and colour it. Take the scrabble tiles and using glue, paste them as shown. After it completely dries, add the paper into the frame there you go! You have an absolutely easy and adorable frame ready to give your loved one.
Plant- This is one of my favourites and for plant lovers. It only needs assembling, but you can add your personal touch to it. Either you can buy a ready-made planter or get a terracotta planter and paint it yourself. You can buy a plant of your choice from any nursery. I found a bright red planter in IKEA which is perfect for this occasion. Put the plant in the planter, add the ribbon around it and gift it to someone special.
Candles- Instead of gifting plain candles, you can add a bit of personal touch. What you need: Candles, Jute twine, Thick silver glitter paper (it normally comes with a sticky tape behind). You can get white candles and red glitter paper also. I already had a blue candle at home which I’ve used. Take the jute twine and wrap it around the candle. Cut out heart shapes from the glitter paper and stick them onto the jute twine at different places. You can also add some glitter on the candle if you have it easily available.
These DIY gifts are simple and can be made within no time and I would encourage each one of you to make handmade gifts. Create memories forever and a bond for lifetime.
